The Chief Medical Director of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Sylvanus Okogbenin, has regained freedom ten days after his abduction by gunmen.
Mr Okogbenin was abducted on August 26 at the Ramat Park area of Benin City, Edo State capital while on his way to Irrua.
Report has it that the two security personnel with him were killed in the process while some passers-by were also hit by stray bullets.
Doctors at the hospital went on strike to protest the abduction.
Speaking with Channels TV, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Danmallam Mohammed, revealed the CMD was released unharmed.
Also, the spokesperson of Edo Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzo, confirmed Premiumtimes that Mr Okogbenin released on Wednesday morning.
He said “The news about his release is true. He has been released this morning. Further information will be released later.”
Whether a ransom was paid or not is unknown as both the police and officials of the health ministry refused to comment on the matter
